Committees

We invite you to get involved and join one of our committees. Unite with other members to provide leadership and direction for the economic and social development of our community. Our partners benefit from the many programs and events held to promote their business and the business community as a whole.

Agri-Business Committee

Statement of Purpose: To establish better agriculture/business relations, thus enhancing the image of economy of business in Mitchell. To recognize and educate local businesses about the impact of agriculture on the Mitchell economy.

Meetings: 2nd Friday of every month, 7:30 a.m. at Marlin’s Family Restaurant

Main Events/Programs:

  • Livestock/Commodities Seminar: Educational seminars where industry experts and seasoned professionals give updates on the latest trends shaping the agricultural landscape, providing attendees with valuable insights to navigate and excel in the dynamic world of agribusiness.
  • Ag in the Classroom: Ag-in-the-Classroom is offered to 4th graders from Mitchell and area schools. This event is held at the Davison County 4-H Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall, where students learn about farm animals such as cows, horses, sheep, and pigs. In addition to the animals, they also learn about the soil, crops, and the importance of safety around electricity and farm machinery.
  • Dakotafest: Dakotafest takes place the third week of August at the Schlaffman Farm in Mitchell, SD. As the premiere agricultural event in South Dakota, Dakotafest provides both exhibitors and attendees with all their farming and ranching needs over the course of the three-day show. The event is produced by IDEAg Group, LLC and hosts over 500 local and leading exhibitors in the agriculture industry on more than 50 acres of land! Dakotafest is the largest farm show in the South Dakota region and brings dynamic segments and entertaining events, which are sure to entice and excite both exhibitors and attendees.
  • Dakotafest Women’s Brunch: The DakotaFest Women’s Brunch, an event held in conjunction with DakotaFest, gives women the opportunity to get together with friends and relax with some motivational entertainment. With over 300 attendees, this is a great event to sponsor and show your support for the Mitchell community!
  • Ag Connections: Ag Connections bridges the gap between the city and farm by providing an educational agricultural experience for attendees.

Government Affairs Committee

Statement of Purpose: Maintain awareness of local, state, and federal issues and facilitate information sharing and public awareness among members and citizens. Promote interest and involvement in the elective and governmental process. Encourage and enhance community leadership.

Meetings: 1st Monday of every month (Summers off), Noon at Blarney’s

Main Events/Programs

  • Leadership Mitchell: Designed to help support the development of future leadership for individuals with particular emphasis on specific skills and collaborative leadership. This program targets individuals who are actively seeking positive changes in response to civic, government, business, and industry changes in the Mitchell area by providing training in areas strategic to the well-being of our community.   • Pre & Post Legislative Luncheons: Attendees have the chance to hear from SD State Chamber President regarding issues from the pre- and post- Legislative session.
  • Cracker Barrel Sessions: Community members enjoy discussions on key legislation with local legislators during the SD State Legislative session. This is a great way to stay informed of bills before the floor that may affect business, industry, and agriculture.
  • Candidate & Issues Forums: Attendees hear from candidates running for local office or debating issues that affect the Mitchell area.

Connect Mitchell Committee

Statement of Purpose: Promote a positive community image, provide local professionals with opportunities to develop socially and professionally and serve as goodwill advocates at Chamber and community functions such as networking events, programs and ribbon cuttings.

Meetings: 2nd Wednesday of every month, Noon at Chamber Board Room

Main Events/Programs

  • Ribbon Cuttings/Groundbreakings: These ceremonies increase the visibility of new or expanding businesses. Provided to members free, these events also provide extra business exposure and Chamber media coverage.
  • First Friday Coffees: On the first Friday of every month from 8-9 a.m., a local business hosts community members for First Friday Coffee. This is a great networking event and gives our local businesses a chance to gain more exposure.
  • Chamber Mix & Mingle: A Chamber Mix & Mingle is an opportunity to showcase your business to fellow Chamber members, business associates, customers, potential new customers, family, and friends. They are a great way for Chamber and community members to become more knowledgeable about your business and promote or refer others to your business, when given the opportunity.
  • Chamber Golf Classic: Members enjoy a day of golf while doing business on the green!
